Thank You for Supporting Care Services!

Thanks to donors like you during our fall appeal 2022, we’re working tirelessly toward a future where people with ALS have access to effective treatments and care. A future where no family has to face the physical and emotional burdens of ALS alone. Alice McGrew

An ALS diagnosis can understandably leave people feeling distraught as they struggle to cope. That’s why our chapter immediately connects individuals with ALS and their families with a Care Services Coordinator to help them manage in the short term and plan ahead.

When Alice McGrew, of Vancouver, WA, was diagnosed with ALS five years ago, she initially felt overwhelmed and “adrift on an unknown ocean” as she contemplated all the new unknowns in her life.

Susan Pennock – one of our six Care Services Coordinators – was there to help anchor Alice, offering guidance and ensuring that Alice got trustworthy answers to her questions and could map out strategies that helped alleviate her concerns. As Alice told us recently:

“Susan has great insight into my situation and helps with things like delivering equipment, offering educational guides, support groups, and trainings for caregivers.

I am so impressed with Susan’s dedication – being there – so reassuring and calming – and listening even when I wasn’t in a good place. Plus, I love her laugh!”
