My family and I hope you will join us on September 14th at Riverfront Park in Salem, OR for the State Capital Walk to Defeat ALS and join forces to be TOGETHER FOR TOM!
We are walking to honor Tom Settelmeyer, who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) in October 2016 and has been bravely fighting the fight from home ever since. Tom is a loving and wonderful Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend! Our family has also lost several friends to ALS and our hearts go out their families, as we also walk in their loving memory.
We cannot thank our local chapter of The ALS Association enough, whose mission is to discover treatments and a cure for ALS and to serve, advocate for and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest. They fund expensive research, provide loaner equipment and care services coordination for ALS patients and their families, like us. The research is SO important, as there is no known cause, cure or means of controlling the progression of ALS, but we have HOPE and encouragement that it WILL come! We will unlock a cure!
Until then, we are asking for your help! Help make a difference by joining our team in the Walk to Defeat ALS or choose a team member from the list and donate to our cause. Join TOGETHER FOR TOM on September 14th to build connections, community and friendships. Help spread awareness of the urgency to find treatment and a cure, by inviting your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers to get involved and to join our team!
All donations go directly to the ALS Association (Oregon and SW Washington Chapter) and are 100% tax deductible. If you are able to donate towards our team goal, that's wonderful and we appreciate it so much! Even if you aren't comfortably able to donate, just being there, walking with us, or sending us best wishes will mean the world to each of us! We will forever be TOGETHER FOR TOM and hope you will join our cause! Thank you again for your support and thank you for being part of this fight very year until we unlock a cure! We look forward to seeing you on the 14th!
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease. Join the movement to provide help and hope today.
